Michael Martin Murphey's Cowboy Christmas
Now a South Texas tradition, Michael Martin Murphey brings his Cowboy Christmas Concert back to Corpus Christi for a fifth year. A sell-out here in previous seasons, Murphey is the bestselling singer of American Cowboy Music in the world today. He was born and raised in Dallas, Texas into a family that dates back to the beginnings of the State of Texas. He was a professional songwriter by age 20, with his songs have been recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker, Kenny Rogers, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John Denver, and most recently Lyle Lovett. Michael's recording career began when he sparked the music scene in Austin, Texas by releasing Geronimo's Cadillac, the first of 35 albums.
He became world famous for his song Wildfire on his fourth album, which is one of the most played songs on the radio in history. He followed with more than 30 hit records in Pop and Country, but then changed directions in 1989 to become known for recording Cowboy Music. He was immediately awarded the Cowboy Hall of Fame's Wrangler Award for Cowboy Songs, Vol. 1. Michael is a rancher, cowboy, and an outfitter of trail rides all over America.
In 2004, coinciding with his induction into Western Music Hall of Fame, Michael Martin Murphey became the guardian of one of America's most original traditions known as "Cowboy Christmas" or the "Cowboy Christmas Ball" which has been granted U.S. Federal Trademark protection. http://www.michaelmartinmurphey.com
